Surfaces That Should Never be Pressure Washed
There's nothing that improves the look of your home quite as much as professional pressure washing. However, it's crucial that only surfaces that can withstand the rigorous process of power washing be put through it.
That doesn't mean those other exterior materials can't be cleaned; it just takes the appropriate safe but effective method to do it. Fail to use caution with what actually gets pressure washed, and you could do more harm than good.
A clean but damaged feature of your home isn't any good. Make it a point to work with a company that takes this seriously and avoid using a pressure washer on certain surfaces.
Using Care When Cleaning Exterior Surfaces
Contrary to popular misconception, not all outside surfaces are meant to be pressure washed. Some examples of what not to power wash are:
- Asphalt Shingles
There's a reason we offer a service at Supreme Wash specifically catered to asphalt shingle roof wash. Standard pressure washing practices can remove the granules from the shingles, tear shingles from the roof, or cause water penetration. When water gets trapped under your shingles, it causes mold and rot to develop.
- Brick with Old Mortar
The same is true with tile and grout, and mortar holds the bricks in place. Using too strong of a concentrated spray causes damage, crumbling, or for the mortar to be blasted away. Without the material that acts as the glue to hold bricks in place, severe crumbling, shifting, or falling can occur.
- Painted Surfaces
Unless your goal is to remove the paint, keep your painted surfaces clear from high-pressure washing. This is especially true if the painted surface is already showing signs of distress. Cracks, bubbling, blistering, or other defects are easily stripped of paint with a power washer.
- Air Conditioners
Your outside unit for the air conditioner indeed needs regular care and maintenance, like cleaning, but power washing is not the method to use. It seems to be the perfect solution for the algae and dirt that appear on the outside, but power washing can damage the delicate fins on the side of the unit that controls airflow.
- Windows
That's right, window washing isn't the same as the common practice used for power washing. As you might imagine, the high velocity of spray can break your window panes. This is a costly repair in exchange for a big mistake when it comes to cleaning the exterior of your home.
Supreme Wash is honored to be the company that so many locals in Clarksville choose for pressure washing service. We use alternative methods, like soft washing when the situation calls for it.
